As Bob Dylan sang, “You’re gonna have to serve somebody”. Israel was not merely freed from Egyptian slavery, but for the purpose of serving and worshiping the Lord, whose service is perfect freedom. So that Israel would always remember the Lord and who they are, God graciously gave them ceremonies to perform. In this week’s passage we learn a lot about why we do the things we do when we worship God.
