As Jesus departs from the disciples in His death and then ascension, the hatred he has received from the world will be aimed at His disciples. Jesus wants to prepare his friends for this reality, so when that time comes, they will not fall away. We live in a day of increasing hatred from the world, and also increasing compromise with the world. In this passage, Jesus equips us to not fall away.
